Assemblies
An assembly is a named group of parts — an engine, a gearbox with its differential, a complete corner — that you fit to a car as one unit. Parts inside an assembly accrue km together, and the assembly keeps a ledger of what was inside it and when.
Assemblies are optional. If your team tracks only loose critical components, you never need them.
Create an assembly
- Open Inventory → Assemblies (the tab strip at the top of the Inventory page).
- Click "New assembly", give it a name (e.g. "Engine #2") and pick a category (top-level categories only).
- Add parts with the "Parts" button: search, multi-select, and set the "Added on" date — you can backdate it to reconstruct mid-season history. Parts already in another assembly are listed but disabled, with an "in …" hint naming their assembly.
Rules you'll meet:
- A part belongs to one assembly at a time ("one source of truth"). While it's a member, the part drawer shows a "Part of …" badge naming the assembly, and the part is managed via the assembly — it disappears from individual part pickers.
- The category's "Max per car & assembly" cap applies ("Only 1 Engine per assembly. Set the category to allow more, or make a subcategory").
- Retired parts can't be added.
Sub-assemblies
Click "Sub-assembly" on a node and name it (e.g. "Differential"). Sub-assemblies nest to any depth and let you change part of a big unit without dissolving the whole thing.
Fit an assembly to a car
Fitting happens in a session's build (Events → your event → Build tab → click a car's build summary):
- The Assemblies section shows a dashed "+" chip per assembly — click one to fit the whole assembly. All its active parts (and sub-assemblies) are added in one action; retired or in-service members are skipped.
- A fitted assembly chip has Re-sync (refits its current members — use it after adding/removing a part while fitted) and Unfit (X).
- One physical unit = one car per session: an assembly fitted on a sibling car in the same session isn't offered.
Fitting is frozen once the session is Completed or the season is closed.
Removing parts and reading history
Removing a member (X on the row) asks for a "Removed on" date and closes the membership row — it never deletes history. The history toggle on each assembly shows "Past components (in km → out km)", and the same movements appear on the car's History tab as "Into assembly" / "Out of assembly".
Deleting an assembly never deletes its parts — they simply leave it, and past sessions keep whatever was fitted.
