Mark a part rebuilt / move to spare

When a part comes back from the workshop, mark it rebuilt: its current wear cycle resets to zero and starts counting again towards EOL, while its lifetime kilometres and full history are preserved.

The "Mark rebuilt" dialog

From the part's panel, choose "Mark rebuilt" and fill in:

  1. Destination — "Send to a car" (pick one from the current project) or "Keep as spare". The part's status and car assignment update in the same operation, so a rebuilt part can go straight onto a car or to the shelf.
  2. Lifetime km at rebuild — pre-filled with the part's current lifetime km. This is the part's lifetime figure at the moment of rebuild, not km-since-last-rebuild. Normally you leave the default.
  3. Rebuild date — defaults to today.
  4. Serial — if the workshop re-stamped the part (e.g. 007 → 007-a), change it here. The dialog notes: "the old serial stays traceable in the rebuild history" — the previous serial is stored on the rebuild record, so nothing ever loses its identity.
  5. Notes — "What was done in the rebuild?"

The whole operation is atomic: the rebuild record, the wear-cycle reset and the car/spare move happen together or not at all.

What resets, what's preserved

ResetsPreserved
Current wear cycle (the EOL bar restarts from 0)Lifetime km
Cumulative laps and per-event history
Measurements, notes, previous rebuilds
Old serial (as prev_serial on the rebuild record)

Exact math in the mileage reference.

:::tip Finish lap entry first If sessions with unfinalised laps include this part, the dialog warns you: those km will land in the new cycle. Complete lap entry first for an accurate snapshot. (It's a warning, not a block.) :::

Plain "Move to spare"

If the part just comes off the car without a rebuild (no wear reset), use the separate "Move to spare" action in the part panel — it only changes the part's status and car assignment. "Restore" puts it back.
